Refurbished Diebold and NCR ATMs

2010 ADA Guidelines.

  • The Federal Register has advised that the US Department of Justice Final Regulations for Titles II and III of the ADA were published in the Federal Register on September 15, 2010. The effective date for compliance is March 15, 2011, which means any new ATM placements after that time must comply. The deadline for existing ATMs is March 15, 2012.
  • Newly deployed ATMs will have to conform to ALL requirements of the 2010 ADA Standards. Current ATMs will be grand-fathered in for the reach height changes and other physical requirements but not for the communication related elements such as audio, Braille, keypad type, etc...
  • If you have multiple ATMs at one location, only one of these ATMs must be accessible. Also, the one that is accessible must have all possible features on it compared to the other ATMs at the same location.

    What should I do today?

Don't wait until the deadline is here, start planning and budgeting now.

  • Inventory your institution's existing ATMs. For each ATM record the manufacturer, model number, software operating system with revision levels, core processor hardware details and the known speech output capabilities.
  • Contact us so that we can discuss with you the best course of action and the options you have at hand.
  • We recommend a detailed site survey of each of your ATM locations be completed as soon as possible.
  • Establish a budget, strategic plan and schedule for achieving ATM accessibility. Factors to consider are the nature and cost of the upgrades/replacements, alternative methods to serve the disabled and the overall financial resources of your financial institution.

In light of the current economy and the myriad of regulatory pressures, the ADA may appear to be just one more compliance burden and expense. However, unlike many other compliance obligations, there is much to be gained from making the world more accessible to the disabled. Not only is it the right thing to do, it is also potentially good for business as it expands the market for your products and services to the broadest range of customers.

The good news, there are some tax incentives.
